Zynga Unveils Plans for Branded Words on ‘Draw Something’

Since acquiring OMGPOP and their app “Draw Something” in March, Zynga has seen a steady decline in the number of daily active users. Now, in an attempt to increase revenue, Zynga has unveiled plans to monetize the app by using branded words within the game.

This means, users could soon be drawing words like “Doritos” or “KFC” and “Nike”, and those brands would be footing the bill for their words to appear on the app.

According to Forbes,Zynga has tried in-game, branded advertising before in games like FarmVille and CityVille and they have generated mixed reactions. This could be a potentially more lucrative revenue source than plain ads and virtual transactions, which is what Zynga generates most of its revenue from currently.”

Does this form of in-game advertising feel less or more intrusive than traditional display ads?
